The Red Palace is the stupa hall and various Buddhist halls of successive Dalai Lamas; the White Palace is the winter palace of the Dalai Lama and the office of the local government of old Tibet.
[Jokhang Temple] Also known as "Zulakang", it means scripture hall in Tibetan. It has a history of 1,350 years and is the oldest temple in Lhasa. The temple enshrines a life-size gilded statue of Sakyamuni at the age of 12, as well as statues of Songtsen Gampo, Princess Wencheng and Princess Chizun. It means "Auspicious Sumeru Temple" and is the largest temple in the rear Tibet region.
